If your photos are in a closed album, or behind glass and varnishes both sides, I bet the new inks would be quite stable. :-D) Everything else has been hung in nice clean northern New England air. The other was hung right over an old oil furnace. One of my failures was hung right outside the open doorway to a commercial kitchen.

I believe air quality is as much a factor as light.

The Pro-100 with PC ink still does the lion's share of my work. It's a wonderful printer.īut due to the unpredictable nature of the few failures, I bought a Pro-10 that I use with Canon ink for anything important.

But only Canon has control over that.Īll that said, I think Canon dye inks in the Pro 100 are great. It also shouldn't cost as much as Canon dye inks to achieve that. I don't think I'd accept any visible change in 25 years as acceptable in any way. (Don't ask. :-D) Everything else has been hung in nice clean northern New England air.Ī lot of people would categorize the experiences you've described as awful. I would not categorize PC ink as awful, but due to the unpredictable nature of the few failures, I bought a Pro-10 that I use with Canon ink for anything important. All on Canon Glossy, Semi-gloss, or Luster. I also have two images in my "office" on foam core that are just starting to fade after three years exposed to an east facing window and overhead lights, while others of the same vintage in the same conditions show no sign of fading. I have had two uncoated images on foam core fade markedly within a year, but hundreds of others not at all in multiple years. In all that time, nothing I put under glass has faded visibly when compared to masters stored in dark binders. I have been refilling my Pro-100 with PC ink for around five years. That's why I moved to a pigment printer because I was tired of watching my prints fade in just a few months. Having said that, the inks have been modified a couple of times over the years and might be better now, but even the guy from PC inks will tell you he'll never get close because he's not Canon and if you want that longevity, use the OEM inks. Most people disagree with that assessment. Jose will tell you he never sees any fast fading. Yes Mark McCormick from Aardenburg Imaging did some stress testing a couple of years back and basically said the PC inks were awful. I assume they would do better in a photo album that has no long term exposure to UV or other harmful elements like air(?). Have they been improved since 2016?ītw, the pc prints looked good when I first printed them.ĬONCLUSION: Pc inks may be a bad idea for something you want to hang on the wall or keepsake photo archives. I saw they just reformulated the PC INKS. Has anyone ever performed a real UV exposure test with these pc inks? The pc prints have faded significantly and the canon inks are still vibrant (very noticeable differences compared to pc prints). I tapped all the photos to my office walls with no frame and no curtains over the office windows. I printed some images using the pc inks and some images using the canon starter cartridges that came with the printer.

They are in Canada, so expect any where from 3 to 5 days for delivery.I researched PC back in 2016 and purchased the cartridges and ink bottles for my pro-100 printer. Tanks are excellent quality, and unlike Epson cartridges, have not had one get stuck in a printer. They do have large capacity reliable tanks and chip resetters offered. My photo papers are mainly roll from Red River. I use a variety of papers from plain bond, clay base, to photo papers. The color consistency from batch to batch seem to be excellent, and dry time is faster than Epson. They work (for me) much better than the Epson inks. Once cleaned, the printers tend to wear out before you get any minor problem such as heads drying out from lack of use or high temperatures. Usually this can be remedied by printing a sheet with the color of the clogged head and saving a lot of ink by flushing. Their inks will clean out your settlement in the print lines and heads "IF" you have a printer that is idle for long periods, and cause the settlement to clog heads. Have you tried Ink Owl? I've used their refills for the last seven years on our Epson printers (1250, 3000, R320 9600, 9000 and a few I've forgotten) and had no problems since converting.
